AUXEL INTRODUCTION IN ENGLISH
Dear friend,
I am very pleased to tell you about an important project for
blind/visually impaired people called as THE AUXEL PROJECT.
I too am part of this wonderful AUXEL FAMILY!
Auxel stands for Audio pixel. A sound that creates image in our (blind
people´s) brains, pixel by pixe!!!
This project was launched in India, Pune, by Omkar Nisal (Omee), who
dreams to eradicate the blindness all over the world.
How?
Through the chain with friends of friends over seas contacting
Institutes/Schools/Doctors telling about this project and also helping out
in technical things.
People in Auxel family are working very hard to achieve the objective of Auxel:
To Eradicate blindness from Earth before 2nd November 2008.
Omee believes that we might just be able to finish this project before 2nd Nov 2007!
Many people try to help from everywhere, maybe you can help us too.
For learning more about this project I´d like to invite you to visit
the site http://auxel.blogspot.com and see the video from Mumbai
based 19 year old visually challenged girl Miss Divya Bijur, who has
never seen light or colors since her birth can now easily identify
simple images of 7x7 pixels in four colors.
(Total training time it took to achieve this = 4 hours).
Miss Divya Bijur recently was video filmed and she was
specially able to TEACH auxel language in front of the camera.
Any visually challenged completely blind since birth) person can now
effectively perceive colored images!
MORE IMPORTANT:
First time in human history, a visually challenged person (including
the completely blind person since birth) can easily and independently
teach other visually challenged people (including those who cannot see
at all)... how to perceive colors!
I immediately realized the importance of this project.
A team of software specialists is working in their own free time.
Some technical points about the project (just for information)
* Development of a Java program which translates digital camera images into sounds
* The digital image is loaded into memory and the pixels are scanned.
* New images are constantly loaded after the previous image is scanned
* The blind guy visualizes the objects, distances and colors via the sounds in his ear
* Training programs for blind or visual handicapted people are developed
* Within 2 days the basics can be learned, after that the blind guy can train himself via games on PC
Free software releases will be distributed via Internet.
First solution will be a mobile with camera.
The Java software is loaded within the mobile & Via a ear phone the blind guy hears the sounds.
Final solution will be a goggle with 2 cameras, a tiny chip with in-built software and the ear phone is attached.
One camera for the detailed view, to percieve the near objects with clarity.
Another for the peripheral view, to percieve the far away objects with speed.
The goggles will be mass produced. The costs will depend on the mass production quantity (Target is 10 US$ - and Maximum should be 100 US$).
When celebrities and leaders of various fields speak about Auxel project to others.
Auxel's targets would be achieved in probably less cost and time than projected!
